Having reached the 2nd phase of the competition for the extension and renovation of the Wien Museum (together with 13 other competitors out of 274), the architectural office Treusch Architecture ZT GmbH asked us to join their team with our expertise.
Through a gentle urbanization of the project area, the new Wien Museum becomes an integral part of the Karlsplatz. The loosened park structure creates a worthy location and a significantly increased presence of the new museum building. The opening of the square towards the 1st district improves the ease of access and creates attractive visual links. The cleared and newly acquired space between Karlskirche and Wien Museum can accommodate seasonal open-air events and other activities. The forecourt of the museum is structured by spacious seating islands, two skylight domes mediating between exterior and interior (underground exhibition areas) and a sculpture garden.
